Melody of The Silent City

Melody of the silent city was a private piano–vocal performance, created in collaboration with the Parseh platform and the Baran group, in the heart of Mashhad. A performance that, across five musical pieces, narrated sensitive concepts of urban life—ranging from the destruction of urban fabric and restrictions on musical performance to the silence of public spaces and migration from the city. Each piece offered a poetic yet critical perspective on parts of Mashhad whose voices had remained silent within the noise of unbalanced development.

In this project, by the selection of the curator of the work, Arian Anzanpour, we at Studiobekr were responsible for designing the visual section. In response to these five sonic narratives, we designed five independent motion graphics in order to bring the space of each piece onto the stage—not only as a visual accompaniment, but as a reflection of its tone, emotion, and critique. We tried for each motion to carry its own narrative—sometimes neutral and calm, sometimes disheartened, and sometimes filled with a lost sense of longing.

“melody of the silent city” was not only a visual project for us; it was an opportunity to once again feel the city we live in—a city with unheard sounds. In this collaboration between music and image, something like an invisible dialogue took shape: a direct conversation with Mashhad, in praise of what is still alive, and in sorrow for what is slowly disappearing.
